Touchdown is one of my favorite party modes in Clash Royale. It’s most commonly seen in Clan War battles, and it’s a great option for players who just want to have some fun while still contributing to their clan. Occasionally we also see it featured in special events, too, so it’s certainly a format that gets a decent amount of attention. I’ll discuss three good Touchdown decks that’ll help you rack up wins.
What is Touchdown?
Touchdown is likely the most simple game mode in Clash Royale. There are no towers to worry about, only an empty field. Troops placed on the field will run towards the other side (and fight each other as well), with the goal of the game being to get a troop into the touchdown zone on the other side. However, this is easier said than done. Touchdown games can be over in just a matter of seconds or they can last several minutes. There’s a lot more strategy to it than you might think. Let’s check out some good decks for it!
Deck 1 – Royal Recruits + Hog Rider
Cards:
- Royal Recruits (Evolution)
- Cannon (Evolution)
- Hog Rider
- Mother Witch
- Dart Goblin
- Knight
- Skeleton Army
- Mirror
This first deck is all about applying constant pressure. Royal Recruits (with or without the evolution) are incredible in Touchdown since they cover the whole field. They make sure that nothing slips by unnoticed, and if your opponent doesn’t have a flying threat they can sometimes maintain the defense all by themselves. Then we have Cannon, as every Touchdown deck needs to have at least one building. The Cannon evolution is really strong, but I’d say that if you don’t have the evolution, Bomb Tower is a better card.
Hog Rider is the star offensive card in this deck, and also the primary Mirror target. Hog Rider is fast and won’t get distracted by troops, so your worse enemy here is buildings. But if you back him up with Mother Witch (especially if you’re able to make some Cursed Hogs with her) and/or Dart Goblin he can usually get through most buildings. Then if you can Mirror him to have one on both sides of the arena it’s a highly difficult push to defend.
The rest of the cards are mostly defensive but have the potential to score a Touchdown themselves. Dart Goblin is fast and does strong damage, Skeleton Army is great for countering the tanks that show up in a lot of decks, and Knight is a great distraction for almost every troop that will target him. This deck is reliable and has an answer for everything, so it’s a great option.
Deck 2 – Goblin Giant + Wall Breakers
Cards:
- Goblin Giant (Evolution)
- Wallbreakers (Evolution)
- Witch
- Bomb Tower
- Miner
- Goblin Curse
- Minions
- Tornado
Goblin Giant is awesome for Touchdown because not only is he a tank that doesn’t target troops, but he also leaves Goblins behind when he dies. The evolved version is even more efficient at doing this. Wallbreakers is the easiest way to win a Touchdown game, but they come with the downside of being easy to kill. However, with the evolution they become a lot more consistent. The evolved version allows Wallbreakers to continue their attack even after losing their barrel, so it’s a lot harder to counter them before they make it to the Touchdown. We also have Tornado to help keep enemy troops away from the Wallbreakers so they’re in even less danger.
This deck also has a strong group of defensive troops to help out. Witch, Miner, and Minions all take care of defense effectively, with Miner having the benefit of spawning anywhere on your side of the arena. Goblin Curse is a really strong spell in Touchdown since it can kill low-HP troops and also spawn your own. It’s similar to Mother Witch in that it can turn opposing swarms into your swarms. Then we also have Bomb Tower, which I’d say is the best non-evolved building. Buildings are essential in Touchdown since you don’t have Towers, and I can’t really imagine a good TD deck without one.
Deck 3 – Ram Rider + Wall Breakers
Cards:
- Wallbreakers (Evolution)
- Ice Spirit (Evolution)
- Ram Rider
- Ice Wizard
- Bomb Tower
- Freeze
- Goblin Giant
- Electro Spirit
Wallbreakers are by far my favorite win con for Touchdown decks, so here’s a second one. This deck goes more all-in on the offense with less cards for defending, so you have to be quick. Ram Rider helps a lot with this, as it also only targets buildings but also attacks enemy troops while doing so. Starting out with Ram Rider on one side and Wallbreakers on the other is a great way to start a round, and it can cause them to end quickly. Wallbreakers (especially with their evolution) are more consistent, but the Ram gets the job done too.
The rest of this deck is built for defending but also making counter pushes. The evolved Ice Spirit makes an appearance because it’s really strong at countering opposing charging cards like Hog Rider. Since it can freeze multiple times, it can slow their troops down long enough for yours to make the Touchdown first. Even a few seconds can be crucial in this mode. Ice Wizard does the same thing, slowing down opposing troops long enough for yours to make it across. I also included Freeze to allow the charging troops an even better chance. Goblin Gang is a good swarm to take out tanks, and they’re also fast enough to make their own push afterwards. Then Electro Spirit is just a valuable cycle card that can take out Skeletons and Bats if you need it to.
